Position Description: Operations Manager (Part Time)


The Oregon Outdoor Alliance (OOA), a non-profit trade association based in Bend, Oregon, seeks a part time (10 hours/week) Operations Manager to help operate the organization and build its membership base and statewide reach. Due to the nature and focus of the organization, location in Bend, OR is most desired.

This position will be expected to build the membership and coordinate various programs as the organization advances its goals in the years ahead. The Manager will report to the Board President and work closely with the OOA Board of Directors and Chapters.


Key Accountabilities

Operations

  • Provide operational implementation of strategic initiatives as outlined by the Board of Directors along with the development, management, and evaluation of programs, initiatives and resources to meet defined goals and objectives within budget.

  • Coordinate all day-to-day activities of OOA including, but not limited to: budget, programs, outreach communications, and all general administrative matters including financial operations, contracts, audits, and grant compliance.

  • Board and committee management and accountability, and general business operations such as: insurance, legal, and banking.

  • Drive committee work and hold people accountable to deadlines and deliverables.


Program Expansion

  • Work with the board on strategic planning, revenue growth, and expansion of membership and member services. Grow membership numbers, overall reach and sponsorship relationships.

  • Help ensure that programs are strategic, effective, and well-coordinated internally and externally with allied groups and coalitions.

Communications & Outreach

  • Coordinate all communications and outreach including website content, events, newsletters, and social media. Provide strategic input in preparing membership communications, reports, promotional brochures, and other marketing materials. Serve as the first point of contact for new membership inquiries and general questions.

Community Relations

  • Collaborate with the Board and Chapters to ensure strong representation of the organization to the outdoor industry, vendor community, and other organizations.

  • Speak at, or coordinate a board member to speak at, conferences and other forums.

  • Develop and maintain an extensive professional network across a diverse group of stakeholders.


Qualifications/Skills

  • 2+ years’ experience in the outdoor industry or non-profit work with a demonstrated record of successful management experience.

  • A strong, strategic professional with political savvy to strengthen and advance the organization.

  • Comfortable working with a board of directors, supporting volunteer committees across multiple geographies, and juggling varied tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Able to work independently, with an entrepreneurial spirit, willing to take initiative

  • Collaborative leadership style, strong organizational skills, efficiency, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to OOA’s mission.

  • Able to think strategically and creatively within budget limitations.

  • Occasional travel within Oregon to attend conferences and meetings (required).

  • Brings patience, imagination, good judgment, and a sense of humor.


Work Hours & Benefits

This is a part-time, contract position, renewable annually. Job duties will require 10 hours of work per week, largely self-directed time (outside of Board Meetings and events). No benefits or relocation allowances are provided. Travel expenses outside the Bend area will be reimbursed. Candidates are expected to provide computer, cell phone, and internet access. OOA does not have an office at this time so the Operations Manager should be prepared to work from home and meet people in their workspace or around the community. When physical meeting locations are necessary, OOA has local meeting space resources available.


Compensation

This position would start at $25 per hour. The work hours have potential to expand as the organization grows over time.

The Oregon Outdoor Alliance (OOA) was formed in 2012 by a group of industry professionals and stakeholders to serve as the central organization to promote the growth of the outdoor industry in Oregon. The organization was founded in Bend and supports additional chapters in Portland and Southern Oregon.
