Since 2012

What started as a grassroots idea has grown into a statewide network where brands, professionals, and advocates work together to grow, lead, and shape the future of Oregon’s outdoor economy.

2012

Free Beer!

First unofficial Beer:30 event in Bend with ~75 attendees; informal founding of OOA, inspired by a vision to connect and cultivate Oregon’s outdoor industry.

2012-2014

Grass Roots Gatherings

Grassroots growth; speaker series, workshops, and “passing the hat” fundraising emphasized OOA’s core values of community and connection

2014

Nonprofit Status

OOA formally incorporated as a 501(c)(3); bylaws established, board formed, creating a foundation for long-term advocacy and innovation.

2015-2018

Funding & Staffing

City of Bend and Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) support OOA with funding and staffing; partnerships strengthened OOA’s role as a convener and collaborator.

2017

Establishment of the Oregon Office of Outdoor Recreation

OOA helps pass HB 3350, establishing the Oregon Office of Outdoor Recreation, a landmark win in statewide advocacy for the outdoor economy.

2018

Establishment of the Conservation & Recreation Fund

OOA supports HB 4015, establishing the Conservation & Recreation Fund

2018

Welcome, Portland!

OOA launches new chapter in Portland, expanding its network statewide.

Governor Task Force

OOA participates in the Governor’s Task Force on Outdoor Recreation

House Bills 3251/4157

OOA advocates for Outdoor Product Manufacturing Grant bills (HB 3251/HB 4157).

2021

Outdoor Recreation Advisory Committee Is Formed

OOA supports HB 2171, establishing the Outdoor Recreation Advisory Committee, advancing innovation and collaboration.

2023

Grant Funding for OOA, OMEP, and BOW

OOA, Bend Outdoor Worx (BOW), and Oregon Manufacturing Extension Project (OMEP) receive grant funding through the Rural Economic Development Package (HB 3410)

2024

Welcome, Hood River!

Hood River chapter established and kicks off with its first Beer:30, extending OOA’s statewide presence

2025

Business Oregon Grant Funding

Business Oregon’s Outdoor Gear & Apparel Matching Grant Program awards OOA $200K that funds chapter expansion, manufacturing and tradeshow support, website revamp, and more.

New Website Launch
