Mike Wallenfels


Mike first worked in Outdoor retail while attending San Diego State University.

That retail experience grew into a 30+ year career in the Outdoor Industry as

a climbing instructor, entrepreneur, business leader, and advocate for outdoor

recreation nationally and in Oregon. 

  • 1994-2009: Mike was a co-founder of Mountain Hardwear where he worked for 16 years in Sales, Marketing and later appointed brand President under Columbia Sportswear ownership.

  • 1999-2009: Mike served on the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) Board of Directors for 10 years including 4 years on Executive committee and 2 years as board chair. In that role he advocated for business and recreation related topics.

  • 2009-2013: Mike left Mountain Hardwear to work with private equity firm VMG as CEO of Timbuk2 Designs in San Francisco until planned successful exit from investment partner.

  • 2012-2015 Mike advocated for recreation as member of the BOD for Big City Mountaineers and was involved in an effort to create California’s first Ski Resort Cooperative with the Bear Valley Mountain Cooperative.

  • 2013-2015: Mike created Outdoor Pursuits Consulting where he advised private equity, venture funds, and companies on strategy, sales, and branding in the Outdoor, Pet, and Consumer Electronics markets.

  • 2015-Present: Mike moved to Bend in 2015 as VP of Global Sales for Hydro Flask and is currently President of the Oregon Outdoor Alliance (OOA) board of directors.
